Mairearad Green & Mike Vass

O chionn beagan bhliadhnaichean, chuir Mike Vass agus Mairearad Green romhpa gun coinnicheadh iad uair sa mhìos gus ceòl a sgrìobhadh agus a chluich còmhla. B’ ann mar sin a thòisich “A Day A Month”, agus bidh iad a’ foillseachadh a’ chiad chlàr aig Fèis Bhlas air an 7mh latha den t-Sultain anns a’ Chèilidh Place.

Ged a tha an dithis aca ainmeil mar sgrìobhaichean-ciùil, ’s iad fuinn thraidiseanta a mhàin a th’ air a’ chlàr. ’S ann bho leabhraichean mar Cruinneachadh de Cheòl Gàidhealach Gheusto, Cruinnichidhean Athaill is na Gàidhealtachd agus Cruinneachadh Mhùideirt a thàinig na fuinn a th’ air a’ chlàr.

Chaidh a chlàradh ann an taigh beag cruite ann an Achadh na h-Àirde, agus tha e air a bhith a’ còrdadh glan ris an dithis aca am beartas ciùil seo a lorg agus a chluich.

A few years ago, Mike Vass and Mairearad Green decided to meet one day a month to play and write music together. This was the start of “A Day A Month” collaborations and they will be releasing their debut album at The Ceilidh Place on the 7 September as part of Blas Festival.

Despite both being well known composers in the Scottish Traditional music scene, this album includes only traditional melodies and not any of their own compositions. The music for the album was sourced from books such as The Gesto Collection of Highland Music, The Athole and Highland Collections and The Moidart Collection.

The pair recorded the album in a small Highland croft house in Achnahaird and they have enjoyed discovering such a wealth of great melodies to record and perform.
